The Houston Met performs Quirky Works Texas on November 14, 2009Houston, Texas (June 23, 2011) Houston Metropolitan Dance Company (The Met) announced its 16th season featuring the company in two distinct performances, 11:11:11 on November 11, 2011 and the spring concert Signature Works on April 28, 2012 at 8PM at the Cullen Theatre, Wortham Center located at 550 Prairie Street, 77002. Comprised of 14 dancers, The Met is renowned for its technical virtuosity and its embrace of progressive choreography by established and emerging choreographers including Larry Kegwin, Kate Skarpetowska, Caleb Mitchell, Joe Celej, Julie Fox and Robbie Moore.  Each of these performances will include premiers and works from the repertoire. Dedicated to sharing their love of dance with a broad audience, The Met presents a free one-hour performance Swing, Jive and Pop into Dance, at Miller Outdoor Theater.  The program traces the history of dance from the 1930’s with the Lindy Hop, flows into the bop of the 1950s, disco of the 1970s and concludes with present day hip-hop moves.  Marlana Doyle, Managing Director of The Met and Kiki Lucas, Resident Choreographer of the company have created the performance.  The next performances are scheduled at Miller Outdoor Theatre on September 22 and October 26 at 11 AM.

Founded in 1995, Houston Metropolitan Dance Company, familiarly known as "Houston Met Dance", embraces a comprehensive dance style that fuses the dance idioms of contemporary dance, jazz, tap and ballet.  The company is committed to commissioning new works by internationally renowned and emerging choreographers as well as nurturing the creative talent from within the company.
